UTEP College of Education Qualifying Exam

All candidates for teacher certification must pass qualifying tests established by the College of Education and the Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ATCP). Qualifying exams are intended to ensure that candidates have the necessary skills and content knowledge to perform adequately on the state certification exams. All content area qualifying exams and the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) qualifying test must be taken and passed prior to graduation (for undergraduate students) and clearance to participate in the State of Texas Educator Certification exams.

Who is required to take this test?

All students seeking a major or minor in Teacher Education are required to take the qualifying tests. It is also highly recommended that ATCP students take these tests.

Cost

A $15.00 Teacher Certification test fee is required each time the College of Education Qualifying Test is taken. The candidate may pay the test fee online with a credit card.

THE TEST FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE.

Test fees are valid for one fiscal year (September 1st through August 31st of the following year).

Registration

Only one College of Education subject test can be taken per test session.

Online Registration – If you paid online, refer to your confirmation email and locate the reference number. Then go to http://testregister.utep.edu and login using your UTEP credentials. Click on "Test Registration" to select the test and test date for your exam, then click "Register". Enter the reference number you received in the confirmation email to reserve a seat

In-Person Registration – You can also reserve a seat in person at the Office of Student Assessment & Testing, located in the Academic Advising Center Bldg., Suite 127, or by calling the TEST RESERVATION line at (915)747-5009. Refer to the test schedule for dates and times. Once one session gets full, it will no longer be displayed on the registration system.

PLEASE NOTE: The College of Science has updated the catalog and the following students taking the COE 135 and 236 will be impacted. For more information please visit: Educator Preparation Program (Secondary Teacher Preparation Program)

*Students in the Alternative Certification Program will need to bring their acceptance letter into the program every time they need to register in person.

*ALL STUDENTS not in Alternative Certification Program will need to bring a permit. Please contact Ellen Esposito at Bell Hall 100 or call 915-747-8468 or email edespositio@utep.edu to obtain your permit.

      Please note that final permission will be provided by Kristine M. Garza, Ph.D. (Associate Dean for Academic Engagement) and students can only register to         take the exam if they have a signed form from them.

**Payment and registration for COE exams 211 and 291 will be handled by the Certification Office at the College of Education. Please contact Manuel Cano at manuelcr@utep.edu for further information about dates and times.

On the Day of the Test

Report to the Office of Student Assessment & Testing, Suite 127, in the Academic Advising Building. You MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to the published test time for check-in. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, you will NOT be admitted.

PLEASE NOTE: Cancellation, late arrival, or absence will terminate the test session and associated test fees will be forfeited.
